Die P-51 Mustang ist ohne Zweifel eines der berühmtesten Flugzeuge der Geschichte. Dank ihres 1.600 PS starken V12-Motors konnte sie eine Geschwindigkeit von 700 km/h erreichen. Die P-51D, die bekannteste Version des Jagflugzeugs, war mit sechs Kaliber .50 M2 Browning-Tragflächen-Maschinengewehren bewaffnet. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde die Mustang vor allem als Bomber-Eskorte bei Angriffen über Europa eingesetzt. Das 1:72 Standmodell ist eine Nachempfindung des F-4E/F Phantom II Jagdbomber, welcher von der amerikanischen Firma McDonnell Douglas entworfen wurde und seit den 1960er Jahren dient. Er ist eines der bekanntesten Flugzeuge in der Geschichte der militärischen Luftfahrt. Ursprünglich für die US-Marine konzipiert, wurde es auch von der US-Luftwaffe weit verbreitet eingesetzt und hatte weltweit bedeutenden kommerziellen Erfolg. Die in den 1950er-Jahren entwickelte Vought F-8 Crusader war ein trägergestütztes Jagdflugzeug, das die veraltete Vought F7U Cutlass ersetzte. Durch ihr Pratt & Whitney-Turbojet-Triebwerk mit Nachbrenner konnte die Vought F-8 die damalige Höchstgeschwindigkeit von Mach 1,8 überschreiten. Die Crusader wurde von den USA bis zum Vietnamkrieg routinemäßig eingesetzt. Auch die trägergestützte Jagdstaffel der französischen Marine verwendete das Kampfflugzeug. Insgesamt wurden 1261 Stück gebaut. Bewaffnet war das Jagdflugzeug mit vier 20-mm-Geschützen, die an den Seiten des großen vorderen Lufteinlasses installiert waren. 1:72 US F-5A Freedom Fighter In den 1950er-Jahren beschloss das amerikanische Unternehmen Northrop, ein einfaches, kostengünstiges Jagdflugzeug zu entwickeln, um die Luftwaffe mehrerer NATO-Länder damit auszustatten. Die zu diesem Zweck entwickelte F-5 war in der Tat ein einsitziges, leichtes, kleines, aber extrem wendiges Jagdflugzeug. Sie war einfach herzustellen, verhältnismäßig kostengünstig und zeichnete sich durch eine hohe Einsatzfähigkeit aus. Die ersten von Northrop produzierten Versionen mit der Bezeichnung F-5A „Freedom Fighter" konnten dank der zwei J85-GE-13 Triebwerke von General Electric eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 1.700 km/h erreichen. Im Rumpfbug mit zwei 20-mm-Kanonen ausgerüstet, war die F5 ein echtes „Mehrzweckflugzeug", da sie sowohl für die Luftverteidigung als auch für Bodenangriffe eingesetzt werden konnte. The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter is one of the most famous fighters in the history of aviation and also one with the longest operational life: its history began at the end of the 50s and ended, for some air forces, in mid 2000s. Its unique airframe, with slender fuselage and very little wing surface, made this aircraft ideal as an interceptor. Thanks to the thrust of its General Electric J79-GE-11A afterburning turbojet engine, it could exceed Mach 2,2 with an excellent rate of climb. But it wasn't very maneuverable and difficult to pilot.The F-104G Starfighter was produced on license by several European aviation industries. From the mid 60s, it became the standard interceptor for many NATO countries including Italy, Germany, Holland, Greece, and Turkey. The armament was basically the same found on previous versions, with a 20mm Vulcan cannon and the option to fit under the wings air-to-air missiles, bombs, or additional fuel tanks to increase the airplane's range.With time, reconnaissance duties were added to the traditional interceptor service.
