Advanced Practice Nursing Leadership: A Global Perspective. Dr. Susan Hassmiller is the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Senior Adviser for Nursing. In partnership with AARP, Dr. Hassmiller also directs the Foundation's Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. This 50-state and District of Columbia effort strives to implement the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine's report on the Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health and will additionally seek to build a Culture of Health. Dr. Hassmiller served as the report's study director. She is also currently serving as the Senior Scholar-in-Residence and Adviser on Nursing to the President of the National Academy of Medicine, where she is working on a second Future of Nursing study, the Future of Nursing 2030. She is also serving as Co-Director of the Future of Nursing Scholars program. Dr. Hassmiller's work has included service in public health settings at the local, state and national levels, including Health Resources & service Administration (HRSA). She taught community health nursing at the University of Nebraska and George Mason University in Virginia. She is a an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and sits on other advisory committees and boards, including the Hackensack Meridian Health System and the American Red Cross. She is the recipient of many awards and three honorary doctorates, but most notably the Florence Nightingale Medal, the highest international honor given to a nurse by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Dr. Joyce Pulcini joined George Washington University School of Nursing as a Professor in 2012 and until July of 2018 was the Director of Community and Global Initiatives and Chair of the Acute and Chronic Care Community. With a career of over 30 years as a pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP), educator and author, Dr. Pulcini directed three nurse practitioner programs and has consistently been a leader in health care and nursing policy at local, state and national levels. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, serving as Inaugural Co-Chair of the Expert Panel on Primary Care, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a former Primary Care Policy Fellow. She is a Senior Associate Editor for Policy, Politics and Nursing Practice. Dr. Pulcini has authored more than 70 peer reviewed articles, chapters, policy papers and two editions of a well-known textbook on pediatric primary care. She is an expert on the evolving nursing roles of the nurse practitioners nationally and internationally and specifically focused on nurse practitioner education, reimbursement and political advocacy and on barriers to the practice of nurse practitioners. She led a team conducting survey research on education, practice and regulation of advanced practice nurses of APNs internationally. Kathleen has held committee appointments with Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), serving since 2006 as a committee member within the Health & Safety Committee as well as SIR's Standards Committee. Her knowledge and skills contributed to her work as a founding member of the Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Coalition she served on the PAD coordinating committee and nominating committee. She is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and has been a member in the International Academy of Nursing Editors. Professional contributions as a nurse leader are evidenced by her numerous publications. She has authored and co-authored published articles specific to radiology and/or radiology nursing in peer-reviewed journals and written columns, editorials and book chapters. Kathleen was instrumental in the development of the first radiologic nursing certification examination and served on the Radiologic Nursing Certification Board. Kathleen is the recipient of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Dean's Award for Outstanding Nurse Leader 2018, the 2018 MarylandNurses Association Outstanding Pathfinder Award (for excellence and creative leadership in nursing) and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Award, 2018.
